By most accounts, the inaugural season of the New York Gay Football League (NYGFL) was an incredible success. Hard work, great spiritedness and camaraderie helped make this possible.

We want to thank everyone who participated in the league this past year. Each of you played a vital role and we hope you will continue to do so.

As you know, we recently asked league members to complete a survey. The results provided great insight into not only the accomplishments of the spring, but also the shortcomings.

We have taken the feedback seriously and intend to respond with decisive action. The results of the survey and our responses can be found on the NYGFL website: http://www.nygayfootball.org/

Moreover, the Board will be focusing on making its processes more transparent and will be implementing the following:

Open Board Meetings

Every 4-6 weeks, the board meeting will be open to all league members who wish to voice any concerns or thoughts and participate in our dialogue.

Publish Minutes and Notes

The minutes of every board meeting will be available on the League website. League members are encouraged to review these minutes and voice any thoughts they may have at the “open” board meetings.

Captain’s Council

At least one captain from each team will be present at every board meeting to represent the captains collectively.

Please let us know if you have any other ideas for making board decisions more accessible.

All of us who were in the spring league will be called upon to take leadership roles in the fall – on and off the field. New members will be looking to us for guidance and support.

We have no doubt concerning the outcome. The people in this league are an exceptionally talented, fun, creative, athletic group who love hanging out with each other.

We came week after week…in the cold and in the rain, splashing through the muddy craters at Dewitt-Clinton, supporting one another and cheering each other on.

We hung out after the games and at other times, building friendships that will last always.

Now the fall awaits…New York City in autumn…with colors that take your breath away, with friends and teammates who will stand by each other and work and play together…making memories for all time…our time…
