Participate in Gay Bowl (Women's Division)

The NYGFL Board is looking for captains to lead our Gay Bowl teams. If you are interested in becoming a Gay Bowl Captain, please respond to the questions below and send your answers to Maya Shoham ( by 5 PM Wednesday, April 32019.

Tournament teams serve as an extension of the league's mission, with an emphasis on inclusion and player development. Captains are expected to work with each other to build teams that are competitive, cohesive and united. The leaders and players on all teams will embody a "ONE NY" mindset where we work together to support the overall success of our sister and brother teams.

Please answer the following questions:
  • What lessons have you learned from previous captaining experiences (either in the regular league or tournaments) that you would want to apply to this experience, were you to be selected as a captain?
  • What will be your approach to developing new players who may join a team?
  • What does having a "ONE NY" mindset mean to you?
  • What is your plan for fostering a "ONE NY" mindset within the women's division teams and more broadly across all teams?

Participation in Gay Bowl XIX is open to everyone who has been involved in the league or tournaments over the last 2 years (4 seasons). This could be as a player, ref, volunteer, etc. The number of teams created will depend on interest.

Open Tryouts will take place on April 7th from 1-3pm at Dewitt Clinton Park. Please plan on attending whether you are a veteran player or player trying out for the first time.

Note: There will be additional Open Practices (dates/times TBD) so if you are interested in participating in Gay Bowl, please sign up even if you can't attend the Tryout. Decisions about the team will not be made after the first day.

If you are interesting in participating in Gay Bowl, please fill out the following form by Friday April 5th at 6pm.

If you have any questions, please email Maya Shoham at
