Overview

The NYGFL sends several teams to tournaments around the country each year. Teams span the open and women’s divisions, several skill levels, and varied missions. This page includes the general info for the tournaments, New York’s teams, and how to get involved. If your question isn’t answered here, feel free to email nygayfootball@gmail.com

We also suggest you join the NGFFL Facebook Page for news from the national board and updates from leagues across the nation. 

Gay Bowl

Gay Bowl XVIII will take place in Denver from September 13-16, 2018.

The NYGFL has sent teams to each Gay Bowl, and we intend to do so again this year. This year we have received approval to send up to 7 teams (5 Open / 2 Women) to Denver to compete in the A, B, C & Women’s Divisions.

Eligible players are those who have been an active member in the NYGFL within the past four seasons (Fall 2016, Spring + Fall 2017, Spring 2018). Please reach out if you are unsure of your status.

How to Get Involved in Gay Bowl XVIII

Call for Captians

If you are interested in representing the NYGFL as a Gay Bowl Captain, *even if you have done so before*, please complete this form no later than Wednesday, April 25. Captains will be selected based of a variety of criteria, including previous experience as a captain (within the league or of a tournament team) as well as service and commitment to the league. Additionally, all captains must be in good standing with the NYGFL and in alignment with the spirit and mission statement of the NGFFL, and commit to operating their teams accordingly.  Decisions will be communicated by Wednesday, May 2.

Interested in playing on a Gay Bowl Team?

If you have not played in Gay Bowl in the past, but would like to be considered for a team this year, please fill out this form with your interest by Wednesday, May 2. Team tryouts will take place in the coming weeks based on field and captain availability.

Other Tournaments

NYGFLers head to other tournaments as well. Here's a smattering of those that are available:

  • Sin City Classic - multi-sport event held in Las Vegas every January 
  • Aloha Classic - held annually in Hawaii in the winter
  • Sunshine Cup - held annually in Ft. Lauderdale in the winter
  • Duel in the Desert - held annually in March in Phoenix
  • Pride Bowl - held annually in Chicago in June (during Pride weekend)
  • Gay Games - multi-sport, international event that takes place every year and sometimes includes flag football
